FAQ: Applications

What kind of committment does the program require--because I may already have summer plans including vacations, summer school or a school club/activity.

The program is a very intense research program that places students into groups of four or five. As such, we expect our students to be at work every day in professional dress without exception. In other words, we expect our program to be placed at the top of our participants' priority list. The nature of the internship is very fast paced and missing a day can singificantly delay the progress of the entire group. In the past, Scholars have been able to work with their organization sponsors to work around the rigorous program schedule, as they understand the value of the program.

Do I have to dress up every day?

Yes. We maintain a professional working environment and part of that includes the requirement that you come to work dressed professionally every day. Part of this includes making sure you wear dress socks, your clothes are neatly pressed and your shoes are cleaned/shined.

Who has to fill out our recommendation forms?

Current English Teacher

Current Social Studies Teacher

Third Recommender is at your discretion (you get to pick).

How challenging is the work I'd be doing?

This is not an easy internship program. We expect our students to be producing collegiate level work by the end of the summer. The skills you gain come from the challenge that you are presented with at the beginning of the summer: produce a policy research report with your peers in five weeks.
